Who is Cafe Quetzal for?

We are for coffee-lovers, change-makers, people seeking to connect their faith with life, or people seeking to be in community. In short, we are for everyone! Cafe Quetzal offers a space in which to be yourself and explore what it means to be present and alive. The journey starts here with a cup of coffee to rejuvenate (or wake up!) the soul.

What's so Special About Our Coffee?

Our single-sourced coffee is more than beans. It’s a product of our relationship with our friends in Guatemala. Cafe Quetzal is inspired by the people of San Juan and San Pablo La Laguna and the friendships we have created there. Our coffee is single origin, coming from a small family farm in Huehuetenango Guatemala, making it traceable and ecologically responsible. It is also roasted locally with love in Lawrence, KS by our dear friends Lucas and Carrie from Sconelady Cafe.

We take great joy in knowing about the people who are growing our coffee, how they care for their land, and how they interact with their community. There are so many ways to care about the justice of what we consume, and we’re always looking to expand our offerings in alignment with our values!

Our Arabica beans are organic, rainforest alliance certified from Finca Palo Blanco. Finca Palo Blanco is a unique farm that guarantees traceability and eco-friendly practices owned by Ivan Ovalle Altuve, and undergoes constant renewal of plantations with carefully selected varieties to improve production and resistance to diseases. The coffee is shade grown under native trees and the improvements in the management of honey, wastewater, garbage and waste are made in a very strict manner. The farm has an extension of 20 hectares for ecological forest reserve. The farm continuously promotes and donates yearly to the students of the community, providing desks and other school supplies to ensure the children of the community have everything they need.
